Good Shepherd Early Childhood Center
of Irvington Presbyterian Church
Come Grow With Us!
We are Irvington's premier preschool and early learning center, where children grow and develop in a nurturing, unplugged, and beautifully playful environment.
Our Facilities
We are safely and conveniently located on our beautiful church campus on Broadway, featuring an easy, parking and drop-off area. Inside, we have 5 spacious, well-equipped early childhood classrooms. Our outdoor facilities include two shady playgrounds, and a very large grassy field. All of this makes for healthy, all-season outdoor exploration and play.
Our Mission
To provide young children and their families with quality early childhood education in a nurturing and inclusive community. Since 1957, the Good Shepherd experience has given each child a place where they are seen, respected, and nurtured as they explore, grow, and learn.
Our Programs
Our preschool and pre-k programs are curated across specific age groups, ensuring every lesson offers the appropriate level of engagement for your little ones. We believe that knowledge is best acquired through hands-on exploration and discovery. Our aim is to enhance learning in all areas—cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and moral.
Welcome to the Neighborhood
If your family has recently relocated to the Rivertowns, we are so glad you are here. Our campus sits right in the heart of Irvington, deeply woven into the history of the village.
For busy parents, arriving here is simple. We offer plenty of parking and an easy drop-off area. But our location provides far more than just daily convenience—it connects your family directly to the fabric of the village. The Aqueduct trail runs right past our grounds. From our campus, it is a 15-minute walk down the trail to both Lyndhurst and Sunnyside, the beloved home of Washington Irving.
The church property was generously donated by Jay Gould, the historic owner of Lyndhurst. Even our sanctuary reflects this rich local legacy, illuminated by magnificent blue Tiffany windows crafted and donated by Louis Comfort Tiffany, who was once a member of our congregation.
As your children grow, their educational journey will stay close to home. The Irvington Main Street School is just a quick, two-minute walk across the back trail, and the Middle and High Schools sit just up the hill.
Surrounded by nature and local history, our campus is more than just a beautiful setting. It is the perfect, safe place for your little ones to begin their exploration of the world and our little town.
Grow their creative confidence
Here at Good Shepherd, we don't use AI or tablets because playing in the grass, paint, wooden blocks, and human connection build better brains than any machine can. What we do offer is healthy, all-season outdoor and indoor exploration and play.
Activities they work on together
We believe that knowledge for young children is best acquired through the experience of exploration and discovery. Our child-centered program is based on providing experiences that will maximize each child’s development.
Proudly serving Rivertown families in Irvington, Tarrytown, Dobbs Ferry, and Ardsley-on-Hudson.
“We moved from the city to Irvington when our daughter was 18 months, and I began looking into all of the Rivertowns preschools to get a sense of where we should send her the following year. Immediately upon walking into Good Shepherd, I knew it was the one. It had everything we hoped for in a preschool - cozy, intimate setting, experienced and genuinely lovely teachers, age-appropriate curriculum, and generally letting little ones learn and grow in a safe, comfortable and fun space. We have had two kids go through each year of Good Shepherd, and can't wait for our youngest to begin. It is the most special place, and genuinely warms my heart to think about how well cared for and nurtured my kids were while they were there.”
